cross timbers middle school wins uil academic meet for the
fourth year in a row |
Students from Cross Timbers Middle School continued
their firm hold on the UIL academic competition on March
23 at Coppell East Middle School as they won the
district UIL championship for the fourth consecutive
year.
Competing for the district title were Cross Timbers
Middle, Heritage Middle, Colleyville Middle, Grapevine
Middle, Coppell East Middle, Coppell North Middle,
Coppell West Middle, Highland Park Middle, Durham
Intermediate (Carroll ISD), Carroll Intermediate,
Carroll Jr. High, and Carroll Middle.
In the sixth grade competition, Cross Timbers Middle
came in 1st place with 168.5 points and Heritage Middle
was second with 79.5 points. Fifteen medals were won by
the CTMS 6th graders at the meet including: Eric Chang,
1st place in Number Sense, Calculator and Mathematics;
David Chawner, 2nd place in Calculator; Brittany Jones,
3rd place in Number Sense and 3rd place in Calculator;
Michael McCarley, 2nd place in Mathematics and 2nd place
in Number Sense; Riane Kiraly, 2nd place in Listening;
Alex Solomon, 6th place in Listening; Alexandra Shults,
6th place in Maps, Graphs, and Charts; Ben Hicks, 2nd in
Oral Reading; Cynthia Wei, 3rd place in Oral Reading;
Jane Kim, 3rd place in Ready Writing; and James Braid,
1st place in Spelling.
In the seventh grade competition, Cross Timbers was
second with 113 points. For Cross Timbers, Sarah Mannen
placed 1st in Number Sense, 1st in Calculator, and 3rd
in Mathematics; Aaron Roney placed 3rd in Calculator;
Cynthia Peng came in 2nd in Mathematics; Meneka Dave
placed 5th in Dictionary Skills; Mia Avramescu was 6th
in Number Sense and 2nd in Editorial Writing; Merritt
Martin placed 6th in Editorial Writing and 3rd in
Science; Rosie Robledo took 2nd place in Listening; and
Drew Rumbelow was 6th in Maps, Graphs, and Charts.
The eighth graders from Cross Timbers dominated the
competition, garnering 203 points to win first place.
CTMS took control by sweeping the math events, taking
1st, 2nd and 3rd place in all three. Winning medals for
CTMS were: Will Chemelewski, 1st in Mathematics, 1st in
Calculator and 2nd in Number Sense; David DeTomaso, 1st
in Number Sense, 2nd in Mathematics and 2nd in
Calculator; Young Park, 3rd in Number Sense and 3rd in
Mathematics; Johnathan Kim, 3rd in Calculator and 3rd in
Science; Jon Richardson took 6th in Dictionary Skills
and 6th in Science; Mike Russell took 3rd place in
Listening; Danielle Baca placed 4th in Modern Oratory
and 4th in Ready Writing; Claire Balani was 5th in
Modern Oratory; Kyle Moller took 1st in Science and 2nd
in Ready Writing; and Britta Redwood placed 1st in Ready
Writing.
Cross Timbers coaches are Jamie Rogers, Oral Reading,
Modern Oratory, and Impromptu Speaking; Eileen Dinneen,
Science; Kathy Bloyd, Listening, Spelling, and
Dictionary Skills; Gypsy Lovvorn, Maps, Graphs, and
Charts; Gina Pasisis, Ready Writing and Editorial
Writing; and Ruthanne Bloyd, Mathematics, Number Sense
and Calculator.
